Can the Wii help you lose weight? If you've been wondering if it will, you're not alone. Wii Fit has been making lots of headlines about how kids are getting up and moving. Nintendo created the physical fitness games to go with the original Wii console. Virtual games of tennis, bowling, baseball, boxing, and golf are designed to work with your Wii. You need to own the original Wii to be able to use Wii Fit. Wii Fit has yoga, strength training, and aerobic games.
The Wii will instruct you to create a “Mii”, your personal avatar that will keep track of your fitness level. After entering your personal information, you get on the balance board and the Wii will announce your Wii statistics.
Nintendo doesn’t claim people will lose weight using the Wii Fit. Nintendo merely hops to create a game that combines entertainment and with a healthy activity.
ACE plans to release a study on the calorie burning of the original Wii sports games. The study is expected to show, for example, that Wii golf burns about 3 to 3 1/2 calories per minute. A tennis burns about 8 calories a minute, while Wii tennis burns about 5.
The Wii Fit is not a replacement for going to the gym, but if you haven’t been doing a lot of regular exercise, this could be a starting point. The Wii Fit isn’t a gym substitute, but it can be a fun complement to a regular exercise program.
